Our Team 

Robert Gordon, Director of One-Stop Operations

Robert Gordon currently serves as the Statewide Director for One-Stop Operations for IN THE DOOR, and is also the One-Stop Operator site manager for WorkSource DeKalb.

 

Prior to rejoining the private sector, Robert served as a Career Center Manager for the Georgia Department of Labor at the DeKalb, Albany, Sylvester, and Dawson Career Centers.  He is a former member of the DeKalb Workforce Investment Board, the Southwest Georgia Workforce Investment Board, and several Chambers of Commerce and other workforce-based organizations.

 

On numerous occasions, Mr. Gordon has served as a panelist during career development conferences. He also contracts with various government agencies to provide customized career development workshops.

 

Mr. Gordon has a business degree from Florida A&M University.  He has an Economic Development Certificate from the University of Georgia, and is a graduate of the Carl Vinson Institute of Government’s EXCEL Leadership Program.

 

Robert is a product of DeKalb County Schools, and he and his wife currently reside in Stone Mountain.

Jerry T. Myers, President

Jerry is an expert in employee coaching, community engagement, workforce development strategies, and leadership development.  Using his skills from 12 years of corporate experience in sales and marketing, management, and training, allows him to assist organizations in strategic workforce and training initiatives.  In 2012, Jerry began consulting in Atlanta, GA. Having worked in a variety of industries including proprietary education, non-profit leadership, and sales development for billion dollar organizations, Jerry's methodologies of revenue generation is impressive.

 

Since founding IN THE DOOR, some of his clients include the City of Atlanta, Goodwill of North Georgia, DeKalb School District, ICare Atlanta, CHP International and AARP to name a few.  Also, he is a Professor of Marketing, Business Communication, and Public Administration at Saint Leo University and Belhaven University.  Jerry also served as the elected President of the Employer Committee for two counties with the Georgia Department of Labor.  His innovative ideas on career search strategies are quoted in his recent publication GET IN THE DOOR: 7 Keys to Maximizing Your Career Search.  

 

As an active member of the Atlanta community, Jerry serves on the Board of the Greater Lithonia Chamber of Commerce and on the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Rural Prosperity Council.  He has a Bachelor of Political Science degree from Georgia Southern University and a Master of Public and Business Administration. His excitement outside of work includes playing golf with his sons and attending community events with his family.

Valerie Myers, Staff Accountant

Valerie serves as the Staff Accountant with over ten years of experience in taxation. She has assisted individuals, as well as small and large businesses with tax and accounting related matters. Before joining IN THE DOOR in early 2016, she worked at St. Mark Church in the Metro Atlanta Area. Valerie also currently teaches accounting for high school students. She holds a Bachelor degree in Business Finance and an Associates in Accounting.  In Valerie’s free time she enjoys teaching art to young ladies and attending plays with her family.  

Paul Allen, One-Stop Operator

Paul Allen operates a Comprehensive One-Stop Career Center in Houston County, Georgia. Paul works closely with local businesses, government agencies, community partners, and job seekers to address the growing skills gap. After spending over a decade working in education, teaching in the International Baccalaureate program at Central High School, Paul knows what truly matters to the current and future workforce — and it’s not mastering the marketing flavor of the week. It’s how well you connect with the heart-beating people you’re trying to help and communicate your understanding back to them. Paul holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and History from the Loyola Marymount University of Westchester California. In addition to his extensive teaching and training and experience, Paul is a trained career and business coach. Paul believes that education is the medicine that can remedy the disturbing cycle of poverty and restore the values that will breed success in our society.

Janie Reid, One-Stop Operator Manager

A life-long native of Putnam County, Georgia, Janie Reid has more than 30 years of experience in social services, program development, program analysis, and program management.  As a past elected public official, Janie has strong networking skills that allows her to connect closely and positively with local businesses, government agencies, community partners, and job seekers to address the growing skills gap.

A graduate of Butler-Baker High School, she attended Georgia College and State University with a concentration in Business Administration. She is a graduate of Leadership Putnam, as well as several regional leadership classes. In 2015 she was commissioned by the Middle Georgia Regional commission as a Regional Leadership Champion for the Middle Georgia Area.

 

Janie recently received her Leadership Management Specialist Certification in 2018.

She is married to John Reid, the mother of two, and a grandmother of four. 

Roscell Hall, One-Stop Operator

Roscell Hall, a native of Athens, GA has a passion for helping others. He lives by the quote by Maya Angelou, “When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.”
 

Roscell spent 13 years in the telecommunications industry and has led several teams throughout Metro Atlanta. As a top performing sales manager, Roscell trained and mentored several new hires as a member of the Onboarding Team. He designed a district career development program for sales specialists to transition into management. He also trained device specialists on sales knowledge and core competencies which led to 55% being promoted. 
 

Roscell is actively involved in the Men’s Ministry and a member of the advisory council at West Oakland Baptist Church. As a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, he is active in the community as well.  He has a bachelor’s degree in Health Care Management from Albany State University. Roscell is an avid sports fan and loves to spend time with his wife, Sarah and their family. 

Stephanie Bermel, One-Stop Operator

Stephanie joined the IN THE DOOR team in November 2017 and immediately provided excellent customer service while building authentic relationships with clients at the One-Stop Career Center in Macon-Bibb.  Being an Honorably Discharged military veteran and having served in the US Army for almost ten years, she knows firsthand how hard work, commitment to excellence, and teamwork can transform lives.   In her career, Stephanie trained as a Motor Transport Operator, Military Police, and an Aircraft Hydraulics Specialist. Stephanie attended Kaplan University where she studied Business Administration and her passion for helping people was bolstered when she was deployed to Louisiana during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina for a humanitarian mission. Stephanie’s education and experience are coupled with a passion for helping people that are in need. Her personal belief is that everyone is capable of doing something great if given the opportunity.  Stephanie joined the IN THE DOOR team in November 2017.

Latanya Lowery, Youth Program Manager

Mrs. Latanya Lowery is a Youth Program Manager of IN THE DOOR. She has over fifteen (15) years of professional experience, which spans from career services, workforce development, as well as employee training and development. In her professional lineage, Mrs. Lowery has been responsible for administering grants from $500K to $5.81 million. She has also provided work readiness training to both high school and college students, returning citizens, and adults needing assistance in the workplace. Mrs. Lowery received her undergraduate degree in accounting from Clark Atlanta University. She received her graduate degree in human resources and operations management from American InterContinental University

Yasmin Middleton, One-Stop Operator Coordinator

Yasmin Middleton has over 19 years of working in the community as an advocate helping people with disabilities to have access to all opportunities in life.  She has worked closely with government agencies such as the Area Agency on Aging, Tools For Life Assistive Technology, and Vocational Rehabilitation. These agencies have been very instrumental in helping people with getting the tools needed for training and employment, therefore, becoming more independent. She graduated from Central Georgia Technical College in Computer Information Systems.  Since graduating, she has been a part of several training events on assistive technology and worked as an assistive technology resource specialist.   Yasmin is the mother of 3 daughters and is a Sunday school teacher at Greater Lizzieboro Missionary Baptist Church Macon, Georgia.

Sharonda Bacon, One-Stop Operator

Sharonda Bacon is a graduate of Strayer University in Savannah, Georgia where she earned her Bachelors and Masters in Business Administration specializing in management.  As a scholar, she was invited to join the Alpha Chi and Golden Key Honor Societies because of her academic insight. She is highly sought after by her colleagues and senior staff leaders to serve as a motivational guest speaker for the students during Strayer Town Hall meetings. 
 
Sharonda serves as an Adjunct Professor at Savannah Technical College where she has instructed for over three years and teaches employability skills, business communication, and basic computer skills i.e., word, excel, and powerpoint. 
 
She has a wealth of knowledge at the mid-level and supervisory management levels after working several years for the Retail Giant “Wal-Mart”. She trained and coached employees to advance within the company. In this position, she focused her skills in Teaching, Human Resources Development, Conflict Resolution, Leadership, and Diversity Training. 
 
She thrives on actively giving back to the community and has aligned herself with several diverse professional affiliations from serving as a board member for the Non-Profit Organization, “GIFTS” (Giving Is from the Soul) Inc. to serving as a Volunteer Mediator with the Savannah Mediation Center whereby her strong compassion to help others continue to impact her community positively.  From shaping our youth by collaborating as a Mentor for the Gulfstream Student Leadership Program inspiring youth to become leaders within their communities to actively participating in the kickoff of the summer 500 program where she taught the youth employability skills i.e., soft/interpersonal skills, business communication, interview techniques and resume’ building. Sharonda truly lives by the motto of “Blessed to be a blessing to others.”

Vinus Alscott, Staff Accountant

Vinus has 18+ years of experience in accounting and finance.  Prior to joining IN THE DOOR, Vinus was the Assistant Controller at Homeowners Advantage LLC, where she led accounting and financial reporting for various large and mid-sized condominium association boards. Prior to her work with Homeowners Advantage, Vinus held various management positions within the accounting and finance divisions of two publicly traded real estate investment firms.  Vinus is an alumna of Georgia State University, where she earned her undergraduate degrees in Accounting and Finance, a Master’s in Accountancy and a Master’s in Taxation. She currently serves on Jamaica Missions USA Advisory Board.

Dr. Markisha Butler, One-Stop Operator Manager

A passionate and purposeful problem-solver, Dr. Butler has spent her life fighting to improve the education and workforce opportunities for the residents of Glynn County.  After earning her undergraduate degree from Georgia Southern University and a Master of Public Administration from Savannah State University, Dr. Butler began her career in education policy. She has worked in various positions throughout the Glynn and Wayne County area including the Glynn and Wayne Head Start, Brunswick Job Corps, Altamaha Technical College, and Coastal Pines Technical College. Prior to joining In The Door, Dr. Butler worked as the Regional Apprenticeship Coordinator for the Georgia Department of Economic Development-Georgia WorkSmart program, where she worked with area technical colleges and business community to promote work-based learning models, such as apprenticeships, internships, and on-the-job training, as a workforce development tool.  In August 2016, she received her Doctorate of Education with concentrations in Organizational Leadership and Higher Education Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

 

A graduate of GA Academy for Economic Development and Leadership Glynn, Dr. Butler is committed to improve her community. She is a Trustee at the College of Coastal Georgia. A committee member of the Glynn County Comprehensive Plan, which focuses on increasing physical growth and development throughout the county.    She is also a partner for Glynn County Family Connections where she is a member of the Parent University Advisory Committee. She serves as a volunteer at the United Way of Coastal Georgia, and is the Vice President of the Job Corps Education Workforce Council. She is the Social Action Chair for Brunswick Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Malarie Jefferson, One-Stop Operator

Malarie Jefferson serves as a One-Stop Operator at the Houston County Department of Labor.  She has over fourteen years of experience in the social services arena. Before joining IN THE DOOR, she worked with the Middle Georgia Consortium as a Career Facilitator assisting dislocated workers in being retrained in the workforce.  Malarie has also served as a Career Advisor with the Bibb-County school system and a Computer Information Systems Instructor with the Department of Juvenile Justice.  Holding a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications, she is an alumna of Fort Valley State University.

Atala James, One-Stop Operator

Atala James has spent most of her career working in non-profit and higher education sectors working to address the disparities that she has seen in the communities where she has lived and worked in.  Atala has over 15 years of experience in human resources and talent management, workforce development and community program management. Atala has worked as a Program Manager for six years in Ohio and Georgia with mature individuals (55 and over) through the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP).  Atala is passionate about community and public service as well as helping people achieve their goals.

Jamaal Hall, One-Stop Operator

Jamaal Hall is a native of Albany, GA but currently lives in Atlanta, GA.  He has over fifteen years of experience serving the Public and Private Sector through many different aspects, whether through Marketing, Counseling, Customer Service or Supervision.  Before joining IN THE DOOR, he worked for the Georgia Department of Labor as an Operations Analyst. Jamaal is a graduate of Fort Valley State University with a degree in Social Work.  Jamaal is finishing his Masters in Public Administration (Summer 19’). He is an avid sports fan, but mainly a die-hard Fort Valley State Wildcats and Atlanta Falcons Fan.  He currently resides in Smyrna, Georgia with my Fiancé’ and two lovely kids. He lives by the quote “Obstacles are those things you see when you take your eyes off the goal.”

President's Message

On behalf of the entire IN THE DOOR family, I am pleased to welcome you to our site. As an educator, I believe that helping others create their career strategy whether through strategic workforce development, a corporate workshop, or a book has a lasting impact for generations.  IN THE DOOR is committed to accelerating the strategy and results of our clients by unlocking the best options while utilizing innovation. In keeping with that spirit, our human resource training division offers seminars and workshops that provide a wealth of information about leadership, skills gap training, diversity and inclusion, customer service, and much more.  Our Workforce Division leads at-risk youth programs, one-stop operations, and strategic workforce solutions.  IN THE DOOR helps individuals and organizations across the private, government, public, nonprofit and education sectors enhance their career capacity.  

 

IN THE DOOR's growth outlook in 2020 looks positive having made significant strides in helping thousands of dislocated, adult, and youth customers through our Workforce Division and Economic Development Division.  Our training capabilities have grown as we now possess a (Learning Management System) online feature that provides more flexible training options for our clients.   We appreciate you visiting our site and thank you for your interest in IN THE DOOR.
